I am always fascinated by stars and I got a chance to photograph the stars out on Payne Lake in Alberta, close to the US border. While shooting this image and while I was at the lake I had a very strong feeling that my friend who was battling cancer, was there with me the whole time. Upon returning home I found out he had passed away while I was on my trip. The stars and my friend will be in my mind and my heart forever. This photograph is dedicated to him. In order to create this one complete image I did a 70min long exposure to capture the star trails. The light in the foreground is from a very tiny porch light from a farm about 1km away. The long exposure made it seem very bright when it was actually hardly noticeable with the naked eye.
Field Notes: Nikon D800 / f4 / (1hr10min) / ISO80 / Nikon 16-35 @ 16mm.
