The punishment for breaking a kapu (law) was always death. However, Pu'uhonua o Honaunau or The Place of Refuge was an area that Hawaiians could retreat for forgiveness if they had broken a law.

    I worked at the Refuge for about 4 hours last time I was in Hawaii. I believe that I could work another 40 there. Well seen, well composed and perfect for the contest.
