Along the Venice Beach boardwalk, one can find every kind of person from a chainsaw juggler, to a roller-skating grandma, to a muscle-bound midget, and hundreds of tourists. Some the least noticed individuals are the homeless who move their belongings with them in shopping carts, wagons, and cardboard boxes. This guy has been on the boardwalk for more than 20 years. He was a police officer who left the job when he shot a child when the man he aimed at used the child as a shield. He started drinking and hasn't stopped yet. He tells tales of what life was like before he went to live on the edge and when asked about life now, he says, "This isn't living, this is existing." Broke my heart. When I asked if I could shoot a photo of him, he said "Just don't show my face".
