This is a gust front that has red clay based dirt being pushed past it by the outflow from behind the storm.
This thing was wicked to behold, and soon after we watched this scene unfold, my friends and I were in the middle of a windstorm with gusts between 60-70 mph, made of 92 degrees warm air. What a rush!
I only had two days on the chase this year, but this storm really delivered in several ways and made it all worth it despite my having to come home early.
I'll confess, we were chanting "Boom Shakalaka, Boom Shakalaka!!!" in hopes of making the storm turn tornadic… lots of chanting… didn't work here, instead a tornado formed 40 miles north. Figures.
