Since I lost my previous hot rating on the challenge "Grin and Bare it"...I did just that... grinned , bore it and then started over again with a new self portrait:) Keeps me in practice but I just hope you aren't getting tired of my mug. LOL One of these times I'll get it right...I added the watercolor filter on this one as I wanted the flowers to stand out...
I am posing with this rose bush, named John Cabot Rose that I bought yesterday at a garden shop which had just newly opened. This climbing rose bush is a heavy duty plant , winter hardy and it should endure ..... I had been saving my money for quite awhile that I got from friends last November after mother's funeral to buy some roses in her memory....
A strange thing happened as I was preparing to do another self portrait in case this one didn't turn out .. the battery went dead, which isn't unusual... but I couldn't believe my eyes when a Mourning Cloak butterfly flew right where I would have been standing if the battery had discharged.. .I believe that was a sign from my mother telling me she is happy with her new life in her heavenly home and also she is approving of these beautiful roses in her memory...

Thank you for your kind response...I plan to buy an arched trellis for these roses as I read that they will grow 9 feet tall ...I would love to see these pretty roses wrapped around a trellis with room to grow....

Andrea, you are irrespressible. You share the joy. Do you know how this came to be named the "John Cabot" rose?

Thank you all for your kind words...I am so glad you asked me that question, Richard as I just did a search on this flower to find how it got its name. Here
is what I found: "This rose was named for the explorer "John Cabot" who was the first sailor to go looking for the Northwest Passage." Now I know this was a great choice as my late father was a sailor for many years on the Great Lakes before he retired. -
