The four horned grebe chicks which recently hatched are now riding around on their mother`s back while daddy grebe works very hard to keep them well fed. Two of the chicks can be seen in this image, but there are also two of them snuggled up on her back. They were swimming around just before this shot was taken but a raven swooped over them, with intentions of taking a chick. A barn swallow took chase after the raven and together with my hollers we managed to chase him away..

What a sweet shot! I have been watching a hawk rob the nest here. It breaks my heart but there is nothing I can do. The mama birds work so hard trying to save their babies.

Wow!!! The Grebes were fortunate you were there to hollar at the raven and it is a miracle that the barn swallow was there also to chase the raven away...A wonderful capture with a happy ending to the story.
