Our long driveway totals a half mile to the end and back..My husband and I decided together we both needed to lose weight and change our diet, combined with exercise.

We've been power walking the last 3 mornings at 7:00 AM and at 7:00 PM in the evening. Our driveway is very hilly...For myself walking down hill isn't nearly as difficult as walking up and in the same token how easy it is to literally go down hill with one's health... My husband is 72 years old and I am 68 but keeping fit is very important at our age and at any age.

My husband who was walking ahead of me as I snapped this picture wants to lose about 10 to 13 lbs. He did weigh 160 but at the present he is 173 lbs.

I am ashamed to admit I've gained 20 lbs since January of 2010 and my goal weight to achieve and maintain is to weigh 120 lbs..As God is my witness..I am going to do it and I will succeed!

    I also wanted to add it is important not to starve oneself while dieting...I am trying to keep within 1200 calories a day and limit the saturated fat intake...Eat lots of high fiber foods and
    you won't get hungry...beans, lentils, peas, wholegrain, vegetable and fruits. For instance a
    peach has about 25 calories versus an Ice cream cone that is about 300 calories. Drink
    6 to 8 glasses of water a day..When I was in my mid 40's I learned I had high cholesterol and the levels were a high risk 267 ...I went on a low fat diet, got my cholesterol down 100 points besides losing 30 pounds. I went from 138 to 108 lbs which surprised me because I was never hungry the whole time and it wasn't my plan to lose weight, (although I was happy that I did) but to get my cholesterol down. I never felt so good in my life...and I need to get back on track again.

    I commend you and Dorsey for this walking plan and watching your diet. I have also been working at getting healthier, I was walking but when it got too hot to walk I switched to walking, running, kicks and twists in my pool. So far I have lost 20 lbs. and I have so much more stamina. Keep it up : )

    Sounds like you folks are doing very well with the program. You have such a lovely green area to enjoy as you walk, too. Way to go!! .. I get a lot of exercise but need to start watching calories, thanks for the info, it`s very helpful!

    My hat is off to both of you!!! Not only in honor of a friend, but for bettering yourselves. I used to jog until I developed bone spurs in both heels and had to go back to walking...a LOT less pressure on the joints!

    What a great plan you have for a healthy lifestyle. I truly commend you, and it is so wonderful that you and Dorsey have committed yourselves to doing this together, as a team! Please let us know how you're doing. This is something Dave and I try to do. Right now it is too hot and humid and mosquitos have bitten me all over, but when this breaks in a day or so, we'll be right back out in the woods. Great shot of Dorsey hoofing it down the driveway too, Andrea!!!
