Q: Indoor Volleyball Pictures

I have spent most of the day today canning and "putting up", vegetables and blackberries. It seems our harvest is all coming in at once. And I am really scrambling to get as much as I can preserved. Yesterday was spent picking everything and preparing jars. I have not canned in 35 years. I did not enjoy it then, and trust me, the work is the same as it was then. There are easier ways to do it now, such as the pressure cooker. I have to admit I am afraid of those. My mom blew the lid off one once, and it sounded like a bomb going off, we cleaned green beans off the ceiling and everywhere else for a week. So, I do it the old fashioned way!

So here is what I got done: 8 quarts of blackberries to the freezer.

2 qts of corn off the cob for frying-freezer

1 qt of butter beans=freezer

6 qts of green beans canned in jars

2 qts of butter beans canned in jars

1 qt of corn canned in jar

6 1/2 qts of tomatoes canned in jars

And I still have corn on the cob that needs cleaning, so it can go in the freezer. Wow, am I ever tired!!!

    I am totally impressed!! I can still remember my mother and grandmother canning in horrid sweat shops with low ceilings and no air conditioning. Susan always tells of the time when her grandmother had an exploding pressure cooker full of BEETS! EWWW

    It looks scrumptious! I still freeze and can a lot and it`s not my favorite job either, but sure tastes good in January. You couldn`t pay me to use a pressure cooker either, they terrify me, lol.

    Wow, I am impressed ... canning is HARD work. Not that I have done it though - after watching my mom do it I had no inclination to do it. And, I have a pressure cooker story also, mom was cooking pinto beans in one. Just as I walked into the kitchen it blew it's lid. I was out of there like a flash and there were pinto beans all over the ceiling and kitchen. Now I bought a digital pressure cooker, not supposed to blow its lid off and I am still to scared to try it - LOL : ). I buy cannot veggies and fruits from Farmers Markets or some of the stores in little towns with home canned food. Your presentation on this entry is beautiful - a work of art : )

    Nice photo! Yes, lots of work and time. I have canned all my life. As a child, I loved to be in the kitchen with Mom, elbo deep in July apricots. Try dehydrating! Oh my, the yummy fruit leather,apple is the best, add honey, cinnamon,and sprinkel pecans on top. Be sure to rub trays with pam:)

    I so remember my days of canning and sad to say doing it on a wood cook stove-not any more-- I just go to the grocery store and get a can off the shelf.... then I have more time to take the camera out and go for a shoot! Great still like you got set up there though!

    That is a true work of art ... both the photo and the canning itself. Like the others, I remember Mom and Grandma slaving over hot stoves, boiling water, pressure cookers for hours / days on end. Clams, salmon, fruit, stringbeans with bacon, pickles, many types of jam and jelly and who knows what else. Canned peaches are the absolute best! We love our deep freezer. ;-) You have accomplished what a good photo is supposed to do ... make people think, ponder and remember.

    When I was little we had a huge garden on the farm. My Mother did lots of canning. I miss all that good food and her too.
