During the year I lived in Shanghai, The White Countess, starring Natasha Richardson and Ralph Fiennes, was filmed in that exciting and historical city. Part of the film, a late 1930's period piece, took place in this part of the city, known as the Bund. Today, like back in the early 1900's, this district resembles the financial district of London. Wonderful shops, clubs and restaurants can be found all along this avenue. A friend of mine, one I met in Shanghai, got to play one of the extras in The White Countess. About four years after the production of this film, Natasha Richardson died from a head injury associated with a skiing accident. Among her fans, I felt like I lost a good friend, as well as hurt for her family.
