During the building boom of the 1980s there were several local building contractors that got caught up in the madness. They sold their modest homes and built big, new, beautiful houses, two of them in our modest little neighborhood of ranch style homes. This one was built from a turn of the century design for a Michigan lakefront cottage. The other in the field behind our home was an even larger one with a mother-in-law apartment. They both spared no expense, the boom went bust, and they ended up losing their houses.
