Portrait of a Coal Miner
If you see a great photo that would make a perfect entry for one of our Shoot Out photo contests but it was uploaded by another user, now you can enter that photo in the contest and, if it wins, you get to share in the contest winnings.
Like a photo editor, if you've got an eye for great work, find it and submit it to a contest. If it wins, since you staked the entry fee, you'll take home part of the prize (the rest, of course, goes to the member who shot the image).

In my 'Photojournalism' collection.
Shot for the book 'A Day in the Life of Canada' (Collins).
In June of 1984, 100 of the top photojournalists in the world were invited to Toronto and subsequently dispersed across the country to shoot Canada in one day.The book was mainly colour but they also wanted some black and white so we were given a ton of Kodachrome and a handful of Tri-X.
My assignment was Fernie, British Columbia, a small coal mining city not far from the Alberta border. At that time there was both underground and open pit mining but the underground operation was shut down years ago.
