Awesome project? History in the making? Report in!

[Harpswell Peninsula, Casco Bay, Maine; August, 2012]

I have been going to Maine almost every year since 1970, but I don't recall seeing a sky as dramatic as the sky I saw last week from Harpswell Peninsula. What you see here is what I saw. No edit was necessary.

The land mass that occupies the lower part of the frame is Whale Island. Casco Bay is the patch of pale blue that fills the small notch to the right of the island.

I am a point-and-shoot amateur, so I rarely try anything "artistic." But, I saw this sunset and it made me think of Hilda Cox and her sunsets. Thank you, Hilda, for the inspiration. Please click on the link below for one of Hilda's spectacular photos.

If you're in York, ME you need to check out the Cliff Walk or take a stroll on Long Sands Beach at low tide...Then if you're around at dusk you might try to catch the Cape Neddick lighthouse...It has a red light rather than the usual white...

the sky seems almost liquid to me. just a point-and-shoot maybe, but what you point at and the moment you shoot...impressive! it is so difficult to find an original shoot of a sunset sky...just because it is beautiful in itself and has been captured one million times. like!
