This little ruby-crowned kinglet perched on our recycle bin as I was standing there, camera in hand. A tiny bird, even smaller than a yellow warbler, they sing like opera stars.. and are quite bold little guys. The ruby crown was not visible in this shot and he was gone before I could get a better view of it..

It is always amazing that the most beautiful noise could come from such a tiny creature!

Oh wow!!! Fantastic capture, Heather!!! I love it!....Several years ago I shot a picture of a Ruby-crowned Kinglet...the strange part of this story is that we had gone to a restaurant and we saw several Ruby- Crowned Kinglets outside in the bushes...We had never seen one before...Then later after we got back to the house one had gotten into our porch...My husband picked it up in his hand to take it outside and I was able to get a shot of it showing the crown...I hope to find that picture sometime as I am going through older pictures in my
albums.....They have the sweetest faces and it posed beautifully for you...I wanted to prop this but with writing so much in the comment I used the bigger space! -

Thank you everyone for your favs and comments, I appreciate them so much!! .. and Andrea, I know how exciting it can be to get your first sighting of a bird, not to mention several of them and in your own porch, yet. I am so glad that you got a picture and look very forward to seeing it. I remember the first time I saw one it flew by our living room window and just fluttered as it looked in. That experience is one that got me hooked on bird identification.. Thanks for sharing!

These are such secretive little things. I've had them here in the woods across the fence occasionally. Haven't seen one in a long time. Lucky you! Great shot.
