before the days of the washing machine and in fact even till today..the dhobi(a man who washes the clothes)is a very important person in the lives of an indian housewife...the dhobi ghat is a place where all the dhobi's of the city, wash the clothes and dry them and deliver them back to the respective households...usually they come once a week and take the clothes...they have an amazing record keeping sysytem,as they do many households, but never mix up the clothes or lose them..
i visited this dhobhi ghat in pune, which is close to where my parents live...unfortunately i went in the afternoon,so there was no washing happening ,the clothes were already dried but i did get a few shots...the place where they wash the clothes, the clothes drying, the temple they worship in,and their homes....
