Early 80's, China welcomed joint venture businesses with other countries and economies... the 1st hotels - with thousands of rooms - opened to foreign guests. In 1985, in the streets of Guangzhou, I saw no gas stations yet... With a group of Italian and Canadian businessmen, we visited noodle making factories (they were interested in Italian pasta making machinery); gold chain production laboratories (again they were looking for Italian technology and know-how); marble quarries (representing Italian producers of marble cutting equipment)... This image was captured just outside our White Swan Hotel with an old Canon 35mm and Ektachrome slide. As I shoot this photo, behind me were sweeping views of the Pearl River...

James Wiley gave props (18 Sep 2012):
What a capture of contrast...The clothes, the expressions. Exquisite capture!
