I just discovered this is the Giant Swallowtail Butterfly has been in California for ten years, which seems about right. Never recalled seeing these growing up. In fact, I asked if anyone knew what kind of butterfly this was, as I had not seen it catalogued in my butterfly books! I thought it was my own discovery. I took this in my backyard in Tarzana,CA on a Jasmine Vine. This large, slow flying swallowtail likes citrus trees.
