While working in newspapers, a writer and I visited a women's prison...some sad stories!
In my 'Photojournalism' collection.
Both the writer and myself received Canadian Press Awards for this story. The woman was paroled 2 months later, so everybody won! A Winnipeg Free Press photo
Thanks to Davide Simone for the Spotlight!
Thanks to Sonia Adam Murray for the second Spotlight!

David, it is a woman and the upside down tatoo reads 'Ronald My Babe'.

I see the strangest thing when i look at this photo. She reminds me of a neglected child in a baby bed with no one to comfort her.Truly an amazing photo.

The thumb towards the mouth suggests childhood might have been a whole lot better than where she is now. Powerful image, James.

Very powerful image. Having visited a women's prison myself several times, how were you able to bring in a camera? Was it as a member of the press?
-
James Wiley said (9 Oct 2012):
Yes Tomma, I was a member of the press.
