Kelly, This is introduction to your work - lots o'people here, so little time! And glad I saw this - wow. This photo is so spot on on SO MANY levels. It is simply a superb portrait, foremost, but the rest? It defines so many important changes for the Sierra Leoneans. These people of Africa, so war-locked for years, in the most primitive battles amongst the war lords, while the people suffer and starve, if they live that long. My husband was in Somalia for a time taking care of business....bad stuff. This purple finger, and her expression, and the attire, and the blue background - stunning. All elements working together here to make for a profound and beautiful statement that beautifully (literally) addresses the Democracy title. Bravo, Kelly. And thank you.

I can't imagine a better or more beautiful example for this theme. It's deeply personal and yet it keys into the much larger human struggle to have our voices heard. Sierra Leone has had such turmoil and strife - that makes this image particularly poignant. I would put it on the cover, if it were up to me.
