Q: Is it just me, or has HDR been over-used and abused?

A: Do you know?

This a London Plane tree, a member of the Sycamore family. I've come upon a number of these trees that have grown around and incorporated any thing in its way, such as the iron fence that at one time protected the sapling. Seeing them swallow up obstacles this way gives me a great deal of comfort regarding nature's ability to go about its business despite our puny scramblings upon the surface, building this, digging up that, creating monuments to ourselves, all the while pumping toxic chemicals into the air and water. But when our time upon this planet is at an end, nature and the planet will continue on, reclaiming that which we foolishly believed was ours.
