He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him...
Proverbs 18: 17

The Downy Woodpecker
Turned his head to see...
A Black Capped Chickadee.
In a scene unrehearsed,
He said, "hey you Buddy,
At the end of the stick;
I got here FIRST
To get the best pick!"

Poetry by me, AJP

The birds were flying steadily to the window feeder today as it was very cold outside. with snow flurries in the low 20's with wind chill...

These two sweeties were having a little spat when I shot this picture but it didn't last long..They don't stay long enough at one setting to grab a seed, for their disputes to get too heated and it was just for an instant....I don't know how I was quick enough to catch it through the old rolled window glass ...I especially love the indignant look of the chickadee who is such a proud little bird..

Thank you Heather (JanElle) for nominating this picture to be voted on.

Thank you all for your kind words ...I am so happy that we have this window feeder to get
closer to the birds and to watch their mannerisms.....They are really precious.

Great shot! Luckily Chickadees are very courteous at the feeder. Have you ever noticed that while some birds sit and perch in front of th efeeder, chickadees tend to swoop in, grab a morsel, and then fly to a branch to eat it so other birds can forage?

Yes, Chuck I have noticed that Chickadees are very courteous and you are right they tend
to swoop down and grab a morsel and are fast as lightning ..I have also noticed that the
squirrels who get on the bigger feeder treat the Chickadees with respect and don't seem to
mind them grabbing a bite to eat with them when they don't stay that long...I am very impressed with your nature site...Welcome to JPG!.
