I was on my way to a meeting and I drove passed Deering Oaks Park in the city of Portland, Maine. As I drove by the park I could see ducks in the pond and two of them stood out from the rest of the Mallards and Black Ducks. I pulled over on State Street and ran into the park to see that there were two Northern Shovelers.
I headed off to my meeting and returned the next morning with my camera in the hopes that they would still be there, and they were!
I have seen these ducks from a distance plenty of times, but this was the closest I was ever able to get. They seemed undisturbed by all of the people around the pond.
