A "chiva" is a bus that has been altered to carry as many people and as much cargo as possible. It used to be a typical transport in rural Colombia, but today they are hard to spot.
They are usually very brightly coloured and they are certainly not famous for their maintenance or safety standards, but remain a cultural staple in the country.
