This is known as the 'Red Rocket' to many BMW enthusiasts in the Tristate area. Autocraft BMW Specialists in Uniondale, NY gave their restored, red, 1990 BMW M3 a complete makeover inside and out, and gave it a new "heart".
The powerplant and drivetrain comes from the newer E46-chassis BMW M3 that was in production from 2001-2006. It's S54 3.2-liter Inline-6 engine makes 333 horsepower right out of the factory. This car has a bit more punch thanks to a Custom Kromerkraft exhaust headers with a custom exhaust exiting at the back of the car. Along with some other power upgrades, everything is functional and looks as if BMW sold the car this way.
The performance of this car is mind-blowing. Anyone who has driven the newer, E46 M3 will tell you it's a hoot to drive. Now take approximately 750 pounds off of that. That is what you have here. A car with over 350bhp and weighing in at less than 2700 pounds. The chassis seems to cope well with the increased power, and is rather smooth with its delivery.
