Earlier this month my wife and I took a boat ride out the the pali (cliff) for the current lava flow was entering the ocean - Puna District of Hawaii's Big Island. The lava is 2000 degrees when it enters the ocean white immediately boils the water. The gas clouds rising from an active vent consists of water vapor, sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and hydrogen fluoride.
