In a narrow lane, on a backstreet of Madurai, I met a woman who sells vegetables. Her eyes spoke of a far nobler existence. Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India.
This was one of those cases where I had to think twice about whether or not to convert to monotone, and thought the colors in this image were so rich and intense, that eliminating them would allow the viewer to more directly feel the impact of her gaze. Since her skin was so dark, more than many, I decided to give it a slight tint of warmth, but not quite sepia.
