"Several years ago I got a shot of this same ram just after the rut was over, the end of his nose had been torn from his upper lip during the head-butting. As you can see the damage to his nose is healed. This grand old guy is the top-dog of the Stillwater herd. The bridge of his nose is still a bit swollen, and there are several new scars to show for his prowess and the tips of his horns well chipped. I estimate him to be about ten years old with another five as a prime breeder. I've been watching him now for about five years. His herd summered well, they are all fat and glossy. They know they are protected and have little fear of bipeds, but folks this ain't no pettin' zoo, and keeping a respectful distance is wise. I got this shot at about fifty meters."

Noble, handsome, and battlescars make him moreso. What a thrill to find him again. Anything can happen in the interim.

Wow, awesome portrait of the ram and I like your narrative on you seeing them over the years, very interesting!

Very interesting narrative and you got an amazing shot of the ram..Good selective focus....I can well imagine with the size of its horns they could inflict injury,

While heading up the moutain near Georgetown, CO we ran across a small herd standing on the road licking salt. They were much younger, the horns half this size. Beautiful image.
