This little female house sparrow is carefully guarding the bird house below. She has just stepped out for a break after standing guard at the portal quite a long time.
Update Jan. 31: The sparrows did NOT build a nest in the little house!

I think that the crazy Tn. weather that we have been having has really done a number on the birds. I have never seen them so protective of the houses here at home when it is NOT nesting time.

Beautiful shot! I remember you saying that you shoot your bird pictures through your office window... The birds are having a rough time here today where we live with our blowing snow and we are having to feed them more often to keep them supplied with food ... they burn off a lot of energy just to keep warm.

Up north here, we have a difficult time keeping all the house sparrows from nesting in our awning struts throughout the summer. They are English sparrows which are an alien species introduced into this country. Good shot, Don.

A great shot of this little birdie! Doesn`t take much to get these sparrows in the nesting mood, lol.
