An old film shot taken at the Atlanta Zoo. I have mixed feelings about zoos. I love to be able to see animals like this awesome gorilla, but at the same time, would he be better off left alone in his natural surroundings? Poachers would love it if he was. Zoos offer animals safety and food, while the "wild" offers them freedom that unfortunately allows them to be hunted down for the sake of the almighty dollar. It's a no win situation. My heart goes out to these wonderful animals .It is instilled in all wild animals to be free, but if they had a choice, and knew what was waiting for them back "home",wonder what they would do?

Donna, you are so right. However, I'm inclined to believe that they're happier when free. This makes me sad.

Home is where your heart is ~ and its not where I am now, forsure. Perhaps the Gorilla feels like I do. Poor fella

I share your sentiments; however, since some of us can't afford to travel we do with these opportunities. A masterful capture personified in such a great 'thinking-man's' pose. Very 2001

I totally agree with you Donna, they are all so beautiful and really deserve to be in their own surroundings. I still think that they are probably better off there despite the poachers. Perhaps some day we will learn to live and let live??

At the rate things are going the gorillas in captivity may be the only hope for the future of this remarkable species, a sad and all too common situation these days. Just an awesome portrait, Donna!
