Salvation Mountain

Leonard Knight. Man, artist, religious fanatic, builder and keeper of "Salvation Mountain", deep in the Southern California desert, near the town of Niland.
Day after day, for more than twenty-three years, Leonard Knight has been working on Salvation Mountain. Each day Leonard mixes wheelbarrows full of straw, water and the rich, clay-bearing soil from the mountain itself, to make the adobe, which he uses to sculpt his immense work. Leonard then uses paint donated by friends, businesses and visitors to adorn his beloved creation with color. Leonard takes little responsibility for the work. “It's as if God tells me what to do, and I do it…”
