Mt. Garfield
Mt. Garfield in Grand Juction, Colorado with a slight dusting of snow. As arid as this looks it is hard to believe that just to the southeast of here is one of the garden spots of Colorado where they grow peaches and grapes. There is a trail that leads you to the top of this peak along Interstate 70. Just to the east of this location about five miles is the Cameo exit from the interstate. There is a dirt road that goes behind the power plant and if you follow it up the canyon far enough you might spot a herd of wild horses. But beware, do not allow yourself to be caught up there unawares if it starts to rain, because the road gets slick and you should have plenty of clearance on your vehicle for the pot holes in the road.

Is this all natural formation or has some of it been 'quarried'? So unusual. You really have seen some great spots.

This is all natural and in an area known as the Bookcliffs that stretch all the way into Utah, (not that far away). If you go to the north out of Loma you go over Douglas Pass which is beautiful in fall with aspen colors and into Rangely and then head west to Dinosaur National Monument. Unfortunately the visitor center at Dinosaur is currently under reconstruction due to some shifting of the ground.
