A concerned crowd looks on as Peter Sullivan of the Winnipeg Jets lies motionless on the ice after taking a brutal hit. This happened in the 1980-81 season and the speedy, high scoring centre missed 47 games that year. He did not return to the NHL the next season, playing out his professional career in Switzerland and retiring in 1986. Shot for Canadian Press.

In the NHL: Game On! photo essay.

Hate to see it, but it's a part of the sport. I really like the feeling of aloneness, in spite of the crowd looking on.

It pains me to view this excellent capture. Too many skilled players have fallen victim to the goons of hockey. It`s a sad testimony, indeed..

Great image of a moment that unfortunately, is part of these sports. Your timing and eye, give us the emotional perspective, that we are sometimes fearful of witnessing. e

Wow, this is an excellent capture, sad as the situation is. As others have said, he looks alone in spite of the crowd watching. Hockey is a very brutal sport!

Is it about the game, or how much pain can be inflicted on the opposition.....A game I can't understand. The faces of the crowd is caught in that tiny silent moment......a collective breath is held.
