In my many travels, I have never seen a lake more beautiful than Crater Lake in Oregon. Wizard Island is the tip of the volcano that created this caldera lake.
Its colors are so blue that early visitors to the site accused the park administration of artificially coloring it. (not true of course) Its waters are the purest on the planet and its color is due to the extreme depth of the lake. It has a maximum depth clarity of 100 - 134 feet.
There are no springs or inlets into the lake. It is filled with rain and melted snow creating a maximum depth of 1949 feet (measured in July of 2000).
The maximum diameter of the caldera is 6.02 miles.
