Before I first went outdoor cooking I called the park ranger headquarters and asked if it is legal to.

The answer was yes, if it's a camping burner (controlled fire). He noted some parks may have a sign banning cooking but he said that's uncommon. Where in the park, I asked? on picnic tables? - to my surprise he said anywhere is ok.

I still keep it at the picnic tables. It's more convenient then on the ground and it also doesn't pose a hurdle for other people using the park.

The convenience of the close proximity of parking lots makes it easy and efficient to engage in a daily practice

In the story Dining with no hall.
