Indian bus conductors are Origami experts.

The paper fan you see here in his hand is a very expensive one - all made of money bills.

And why bother?
To cool down in rural buses, there's no A/C to help. Windows are always wide open during day time, hot time.
Bus tickets can be bought on board, while driving and in cash only. (No debit/credit machines here).
The conductor has to withstand these natural forces plus, the bus gets so crowded that bank notes can rip apart from his hand while he's pushing his way through.

And with all this going on, he still had to have change handy at all times
