A new heart will I give you and a new spirit will I put within you. Ezekiel 37: 26
My husband and I decided we needed to power walk and to maintain a healthy diet with good fiber in fruits and vegetables (less sugar and sodium) plus meat as a condiment rather than the main course. We do not eat processed foods...We drink water with every meal. We don't touch pop. I allow myself one cup of coffee a day and that's at breakfast. We use almond milk instead of dairy milk on our breakfast of Old Fashioned Quaker Oatmeal every morning. We get soluble fiber by cooking legumes such as beans and lentils. On our tossed salads the only dressing that we use now is Essential Everyday fat free Raspberry Vinaigrette which has the least amount of sodium of any dressing that we have seen on the grocery shelves... 35 grams of sodium and 35 calories per two tablespoon serving. Plus wonderful tasting.
What prompted us to start this regime was because our neighbor lady and friend who is only two years older than me had a stroke last July. We thought it was time to start taking better care of our health. My husband is 73 and I will turn 70 in September. Age is just a number compiled with the numbers of miles we walk every day. I have gone from a high 142 over 80 last July on my blood pressure reading to 105 over 69 which is a good drop in numbers.
Since last July we have power walked 1000 miles through a trail in our woods...We started out
walking 2 miles a day and then increased it to 4 miles because some days we could not walk this past winter due to bad weather. it was and is not easy with roots to trip us which is why we use walking sticks. Sometimes I am drenched with perspiration because of hot muggy weather.. we have to watch for deer ticks that are thick in the woods.
Dorsey dropped 25 pounds and went from 173 to 148. I lost 32 pounds and went from 145 to 113. I still have to convince myself that I can wear smaller clothes now than I used to as it hasn't registered in my brain yet and am always surprised when the clothes I used to wear are way too big. When I look back at some of my older pictures I can see the difference..
To reach a goal it is imperative to have faith in yourself with purpose to achieve whatever is set before you. Sometimes we don't get that second chance in life and we are not through yet. We will walk as long as our legs will permit us and God willing our health stays good.
Thank you so much Donald Garrett for the generous spotlight...Very much appreciated.
