During surgical downtime Sunday, we drove to Bloomington to collect a few pictures of Indiana University. I graduated from IU as did my four children so it is close to our hearts. Founded in 1820, it is one of the most beautiful campuses in the US. It is also the filming site of the 1979 movie, Breaking Away, a coming of age tale of the local 'cutters' v. students and the annual Little 500 bicycle race.

It rained the whole weedend, plus I was struggling with the surgical eye, so photo ops did not abound. But I really wanted some shots of Beck Chapel and the historic cemetery next to it. To my surprise, the chapel was open.

Wonderful photo. The light is magic. This scene really creates a mood. I can almost hear the whispered prayers.

As others tangentially noted, your exposure control and ISO achieve the evocation of calm introspection so often inspired by churches. Places of worship are powerful and beautiful places, and both the structures themselves and what happens in and around them say something interesting about the human search for meaning and community. I hope to do a series of midwestern church exteriors.....I also like knowing that you and your children went to IU.
