A buddy of mine and I decided to take a sporadic little trip up to see our friend in Boston. The weather as we were landing was far from perfect so we slowly decended through the thick cloud cover. You could hardly see anything, but for a fraction of a second some sunshine shone through just right and made a complete circlular rainbow as it cast the plane's shadow right at the center. A buddy of mine later told me it is called a "glory" and is most often seen in airplanes, hence the title, "Glory of the Pilot." Nature is impressive eh?

oddly though, i think the rainbow effect comes from the plane's window, didn't it?

I just saw the picture in the mag and something stuck me!
I captured something similar to this on video, but I thought it was just some refraction from the airplane window. Just now I knew that this "Glory" was actually out there in the sky!
This is truly amazing :)

My son is a commercial pilot and i sent it to him.I don't know if he have had his "moments" yet. There was one pilot who told me his plane was
hit by lightening but i did not pursue the aspects of his feelings, because it was an after thought at the ending of a session and it was never brought up again. At first i thought it was another plane passing by. -

This shot is totally amazing Marianne. I can not say how envious of you I am seeing this. It would be incredible to wittness this, let alone have your camera out and ready to capture it. Well done.

I am wondering if Michael Fuchs (a JPGer) has seen this image, as I am guessing he would be very interested in it.
