For we brought nothing into this world and it is certain we carry nothing out....Having food and raiment let us therewith be content...I Timothy 6: 7- 8

If he can carry out seeds
The woodpecker is content.....
There is nothing else that he needs
Or is more hungry for on this continent....

Up close and personal! A handsome fellow and a nice sharp image (esp. through the glass). We have one of these who keeps frequenting the suet blocks.

Thank you all for your comments..A special thanks to JanElle,( Heather) for nominating this photo.. .Susan, I have often wondered too why they are called red bellied when the red really isn't all that predominant on their bellies....However, another species of woodpecker is called the red headed. Consequently, that name was already taken ..I love the red headed species also who we don't see as often, but they are equally stunning!

That does give us an answer as to that perplexing question as to why the name. Your answer cleared the air. Love the timing with the seed in the beak and I especially love the colors and the incredible details that make your bird pictures such a delight to see. Beautiful work that got my yea vote.
