The iconic spire of the Empire State Building is framed by the graceful curve of the Washington Square Arch in Greenwich Village.

The compression of perspective afforded by the telephoto lens makes the Art Deco landmark appear much closer than its actual distance, some thirty blocks uptown on Fifth Avenue.

The original photograph was taken on Kodachrome-64 slide film many years ago. It remains one of my favorite “timeless” images of Manhattan.

Bailey Cooper gave props (12 Apr 2014):

It will remain one of my favorites too. Secure in the brain hoard now.
