"...long, long ago, a man much older and wiser than I

told me when I reach that point in my life

when there was more of it behind me than ahead of me,

life and living would take on a much different meaning.

In the mornings I will give thanks that I am still here to wake,

during each day waste much less of the precious time I have left,

and each evening give silent thanks

for this one day and the beauty of the sunset,

and humbly pray for the night to pass in peace,

that the morning will find me still here

to witness the glory of the rising of the sun, one more time.

And so indeed has it come to pass.

It is in the doing and being that living is done.

It is in the sharing and not in the keeping

that treasures have worth.

Life is not a rock by the wayside to cling to,

nor to carve in ones own image,

life is a wide and wondrous road to travel,

it is a journey of discovery, best traveled shared,

and this road leads ever onward, never backward.

Life can only be understood backward

but must be lived forward.

I cannot retrace my steps, only remember them,

and carry no burdens upon my back

for all I truly need will I find as I go.

Peace in the evening, joy in the morning.

I must live today as it is, tomorrow will be as it will,

and let yesterday pass, for it is gone.

Trust in today, have faith in tomorrow,

remember yesterday, and then let it go.

I am a traveler between two eternities,

my road lies before my feet

and beckons me ever onward.

In my searching will I find peace,

in my labours will I find rest,

As I will travel this road but once,

let my journey be worthwhile..."

I love your philosophy and how you wrote it is excellent. I feel much the same way most of the time, but there are some down days. However, I do feel that if you do not have the valley's in life then you cannot appreciate the peaks. Like so many of us, I have more days behind me than in front of me and I am working on making my days ahead to be full and full of things that I want to do, to spend time with our kids and grandkids … and our great-grandson. For my husband and myself to take the trips that we have talked about when we have the time to do them, and the time is nearly here. I want to be a better photographer, a better artist and get my bowling average up. : )
