Cumulu-stratus clouds stretch across the altitude for as far as the eye can see, being stretched several hundred miles by the intense high upper level winds that we sometimes refer to as the Jet Stream. The clouds name originates from the combination of cumulus clouds and stratus clouds. Not sure of the meaning behind the cumulus but the stratus come from Greek reference to straight and long {Strati}
