The mausoleum of the Dolbeer family in Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Colma, CA.

When we are traveling and find ourselves near one of the many monuments crafted by the Smith Granite Company of Westerly, RI we take photos for Ike Smith to add to his research on the company business. This mausoleum made of Westerly Blue granite was shipped in 1910. The bronze door was done by a San Francisco sculptor, Haig Patigian, and depicts the Angel of Death.

John Dolbeer made his millions in the lumber business, but his money could not buy his family happiness. In 1873 his wife committed suicide with a gun three years after the birth of their second child, Bertha. In 1886 their son, Chase, was thrown from a wagon and killed. John died in 1902, leaving most of his money to his daughter, Bertha, who dealt with a number of suitors during her last years. She committed suicide in 1904 by jumping from the 9th floor of The Waldorf Hotel in New York City.

Beautifully written narrative and you shot this mausoleum strange it has the angel of death ! Really interesting.......Money is the root of all evil....I truly believe that....if I had my way all money would be burned and we would go back to the barter system..... I watched a documentary years ago about an Island where they only lived by the barter system and they were reported to be the happiest people on earth and they looked full of joy ! I can't remember the name of the Island off hand.... It was a very enlightening experience watching that documentary.....
