This is the beginning. This is where the "Blues Brothers" start their epic journey--The old Joliet Prison in Joliet, Illinois. This is the main administration building of the complex. The actual door that opens in the movie to reveal Belushi is on Rt. 171, Collins Street. The prison was built in 1865 by prison laborers. The stone was quarried locally and is known as Joliet Limestone. It was closed in 2002 and is now abandoned.

Elwood: "It's a hundred and six miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses."

Joliet Jake: "Hit it."

Pinhole photo, Zero Image Camer, HP5 400 film, about 1 second exposure.
