Teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalm 90: 12

Our little dog turned a year old last month...she can be a little rascal at times...Yesterday I was shooting pictures of clouds and all of a sudden she took off like a rocket ship after a cat that was in the field...but the cat got away thankfully. Tippi ran around the housing complex across the field with me after her and sometimes she would be out in the road...Finally one of the neighbors whose cat Tippi chased, suggested we give her a dish of water which she finally came back for. I grabbed the dog quickly and carried her and my camera that I had in my hand when she ran off earlier all the way across the field back to our house. She has never run away from our place before this, but she got distracted when she saw the cat...I met neighbors I had never seen before and they probably think of me now as the crazy lady with the crazy dog.. One gentleman on his deck said "you know she could get run over" and I said "I am very aware of that and this is why I am trying to get her back home."

Today Tippi has been as a good as gold and she went for our two mile walk with us this morning...(part of the time on the leash) except in our wooded trail and had no problem with her whatsoever...She still is a puppy yet and has a lot of learning to do and so do I:) We are learning together.

One year old already - how time flies!!! Love this portrait of her with one paw up. She is a lively one sometimes, but she is still a puppy and she doesn't know the danger of the road. You got some unexpected exercise when she ran off - LOL : )

We invested in a PetSafe from the Petco store in Bangor. It is a canister the size of a coffeemaker. A radio collar comes with it. We mounted ours on the wall in the laundry room. Your dog wears the radio collar when it is outside and has freedom as far as 90 feet in diameter around your property. If it goes over that border, it get a terrible tone and returns safely within the 90 foot diameter. You can put it on a low shock, but we choose not to ever shock her, and the tone works perfectly. She now knows where the boundary is, and won't go near it, but we still keep the radio collar on her when she's out exploring. She runs free in the woods but we are very isolated, and there are many acres for her to explore while we walk back in the woods too. She's trained to come back to us when Dave whistles. You dog is so cute and special, Andrea. I love animals, all of them, and Tippi is a real sweetie. She is just doing what any dog will do under the circumstances. You might want to try the device. It could save her life.

Looking very happy and beautiful in her element. This is such a lovely image of Tippi!! I have to remind my Dixie occasionally about not going near the highway and although she is very obedient I still worry. I like Patty`s idea.. and might try it for those days when I`m away..

it sounds like you had quite an adventure with Tippi. sometime their natural instinct takes over and they can't help themselves. Patty idea sounds like a good one it it will help keep Tippi out of the roads and out of danger.

She's the spitting image of my grandmother's dog, "Rags," who was a member of our family from 1937-1955. We shall always remember Rags!
