It was the first time visiting my family with my husband since I had been married. My aunt and uncle and all of my cousins with their husbands and children greeted us anxiously as we arrived at their houses in Rutino, a small town in the mountains of the Campania region of Southern Italy. One of my cousins gave us her bedroom to sleep in, it used to be my grandmother's room. The next morning upon waking I opened the doors of the balcony overlooking the countryside and the street below and took this photo of my husband sleeping in what had been my grandmother's bed, my nonna Lora's bed. The Trompe-l'oeil wall was painted by my sculptor uncle, Amerigo and I am not sure who was responsible for the framed crocheted Christ.
