I go the way of all earth: be thou strong... and keep the charge of the Lord thy God to walk in his ways whithersoever thou turnest thyself.. I King 2: 2-3

The woodpecker looked around the suet block
Knowing he was a handsome species of his stock
Who had to be strong as he flew around the earth
For him to turn out to be the good bird of worth...
Poetry by me AJP

I have never seen the red bellied woodpecker species as accommodating as they have been this winter to pose in so many different ways for the camera. I shot several pictures late this afternoon through the window as the sun was going down but only kept the last one here where he turned his attention away from the suet for a second and gave me a parting glance before he flew away. It is interesting to play with the late afternoon light and this bird has been a good model for practicing on. You can see how they got the name "Red-bellied." They don't always turn in this direction when they eat where you can see the stomach area.

Decided to post this for the story book tale theme of "Woody Woodpecker"

Please view in light box for best results.. Thank you!

Thank you Thad Zajdowicz for the spotlight..I appreciate it very much!
