The male Red bellied woodpecker had just picked up a piece of suet that he'd dropped on the feeder below, when I caught this pose of him springing back up triumphantly holding the piece of suet in his beak.

Yes, he could have chosen to keep eating on the suet block, ignoring the dropped piece but he figured that it is better to eat on a piece that he'd already worked on to dig out while he continued to climb his way back up to finish the job he started. I love how he opens my eyes to observe and learn from his behavior.

    Thanks for the comments...May, this was a telephoto macro lens shot that diffuses and blends the background which from that angle is showing snow and not sky ... I shot this through the window in early evening light..Also has a bit of bluish cast from the lighting cast that time of
    the evening... ..The feeder is just a short distance from our window.
