Inside the Masjid Sultan near Arab Street in Singapore.
A sectioned off area for the women that pray. Heavy red velvet sheets drape a box in an area large enough for possibly 10 women, and what few children they have with them that day. It's an area that's not even inside the main prayer section of the Mosque. As grand as the main Mosque was, I found this little area of prayer to be the most beautiful.
Completely closed off to everyone. My only glimpse would come when a wind from the windows that cool the very humid Mosque, slowly push the heavy curtains to reveal the kneeling women, and playing children.
In all the Mosques that I visited to photograph, the people here were by far the nicest I met in all of Singapore. I didn't even care that there was no air conditioning. The women that would spot me with my cameras would smile with eye contact. There was never a feeling that I was an intruder. It was amazing, and such an honor, and absolute pleasure to photograph them.
