Here the Cape Point lighthouse is enveloped in a cloud. You can just make out the sea at Cape Point immediately below but most of the horizon is lost in white mist.

The old lighthouse at Cape Point was built atop a high promontory overlooking the Cape of Good Hope in the 1850s. Unfortunately, the choice of site atop the Cape Point Promontory was a disaster. The lighthouse is often shrouded in mist and clouds. It was never reliable as a navigational aid and after the Lusitania luxury liner ran aground on the Bellows Rocks below the lighthouse and sank in 1911, it was decommissioned. The replacement lighthouse is at a much lower elevation and is the brightest one in South Africa. At 10 million candles the new lighthouse can be seen 60 km out to sea.
