[French Quarter, New Orleans, Louisiana, October 2009]

This is from my three-day visit to the New Orleans French Quarter in late October 2009. Everywhere, I saw young “street” people.

I recall that the two men in this photo were engaging, apparently educated, and fine musicians, despite the guitar. The woman said nothing.

These three were not covered in grime or in need of healthcare. They were affecting a “look,” but their shoes and clothing were serviceable. She had a camera. The dog was well-nourished.

Contrast these three, however, with “Ginny and Skye,” a couple "down on their luck" and cut off from society. (Please see my previous upload.) Unlike Ginny and Skye, these three did not seem to be cut off from anything. Unless they were going home at night, they appeared to be living on the street because they wanted to.

As always, thanks for stopping by.

Nice shot, my life was very similar at that age, I spent a lot of my time on the streets of Melbourne with my guitar and camera, I always had a place to sleep and shower though and 30 years latter I am an acomplished photographer and have 2 degrees. You never no where life will take you and you just can not ell where some one is going. These people for some reason do not look like loosers.

Maybe they were just temporarily camping out between jobs and planned to go back to work after they got tired of the street life...I notice the dog is wearing a collar and looks well fed...They don't look like they are hurting anyway. Maybe they are enjoying their life style and having some fun along the way!

Interesting observation Sir Richard......well two out of the three looked happy to be where they're at.....be interesting to see if they would still be there on a wet miserable cold day.....do hope it was just an interim.

Being a New Orleanian makes me think these are a trio of college kids just chillin' in the Quarter for the day! Since Katrina many homeless, desperate people are attracted by the possibility of getting food or a few coins from people.
